Portable GCs & Hand Held Analyzer Features and Benefits

Portable GCs or Portable Chromatographs

A gas chromatograph helps to separate the gaseous volatile compounds being varied by inert gases like Nitrogen, Argon, Hydrogen, Helium or Hydrogen across a solid stationary phase. The components in a gas chromatograph include a GC Capillary Column, Capillary Column, column oven, detector, a computer for data acquisition and analysis. The combination of pumps and electronic sensors maintain a constant or a variable mobile phase flow rate. GC instruments typically have a maximum temperature of 350C to 450C.

Gas chromatographs tend to be equipped with different types of detectors including:
  •            Flame Ionization Detector
  •            Thermal Conductivity detector
  •            Electron Capture Detector
  •            Flame Photometric detector
  •            Mass Spectrometer among others.

Gas chromatography is a powerful standalone process in itself that is being used by numerous industries, especially environmental testing. However, Gas chromatograph instruments are also found in mass spectrometer. This helps in refining the GC separation from additional mass analysis. Fast running times and robust data acquisition and analysis are an important feature of this process. Benefits:

  •            The technique has high resolution power as compared to others. Once can easily resolve the complex mixtures into compounds using Gas Chromatography. The separation, identification and determination of numerous compounds having negligible difference in their boiling points can be resolved by this technique.

  •            Sensitivity detection is very high with thermal conductive detectors. You can detect up to 100 ppm whereas electron capture, flame detectors and phosphorus detectors can detect parts per billion, ppm or picogram respectively.

  •            It gives relatively good precision and accuracy.

  •            A micro method that requires small size apparatus and micro liter of sample is sufficient for complete analysis

  •            The speed of analysis is very fast.

  •            Use of gas as the moving phase has several benefits of rapid equilibrium between the stationary and moving phase, allows the use of high carrier gas velocity and also leads to fast analysis in seconds, hours or minutes.

Hand-Held Portable Analyzers

Hand helps analyzers develop sensors and analyzers for water, air and process monitoring applications. The sensor technologies include gas chromatography, electrochemistry, capacitance, thermal conductivity, catalytic combustion, infrared, electrochemistry, photo ionization, Flame ionization etc. Many analyzers are multifunctional and include a variety of technologies. The parameters measured include: VOCs, O2, H2O, fixed gases, SO2, NO2, NO, CO2, formaldehyde...at ppb to % levels.
Application areas of hand held portable analyzers include:
  •            Landfill Gas Analysis
  •            Confined spaces
  •            Stack gas analysis
  •            Leak Detection
  •            Emergency Response
  •            Industrial Health

The hand held analyzers have a unique Snap on Head for optimizing their long life lamps.  Some of their application and benefits include:
  •            Unparalleled accuracy and speed
  •            Completely non destructive analysis
  •            Real time analysis of resulting on their job, no matter wherever the job takes place
  •            Perfect for evaluation and data reporting
  •            Ideal for light element analysis without Helium of Vacuum Purge for portability
